Ink by Holly Hood

Summary:
Hope didn’t ask for so much change in her life. She was happy living in Georgia for the rest of her life. Focusing on the things she loved the most: singing, dancing, and her best friend Karsen. This was effortless, she had no worries.

But all that changed when her mother decided to leave her dad for Pete, the Tae Kwon do instructor. And now Hope had to choose between staying where she belonged or moving far away to Cherry California with her dad.

After making the choice to move far away, to protect her father, Hope realizes Cherry is nothing like the hometown she’s used to. Everyone is rude, high class and she doesn’t fit in. Not until Slade comes along. He has never fit in and he is okay with that. And Hope is fascinated by everything that Slade is. All the way down to his tattoos and bat wielding rescue the first time they meet.

She knows she should stay far away from him, but it proves tricky as she discovers dark secrets about the town and people in Cherry, California. Hope doesn’t know who to trust as her life takes a turn from ordinary and depressing to dangerous and wild.

Ms. Holly Hood has a great written voice and her characters are amazingly complex. The book starts as the main female character arrives in town and gets settled. As we get further into the book, things get darker as we learn more about the town. We get taken on a rollercoaster ride as the author's twist and turn leave you wondering until the last page what is going to happen. The cast of characters are interesting and they all have their own place in the novel. They aren’t fillers or anything, the author has made sure that each add an element to the book.

I love the contrasts between the characters and how we learn something new each chapters. I said before and I will say it again I like the cute two word descriptions instead of the chapter one, chapter two thing. What I would like to see though is a prequel to all this, as Slade and Tucker deserve their own book since there's more information I want to know. Also, more information about her Mom, Pete, and her little brother please. They're the only other connections to her old life and we didn’t get much as we saw with Karsen.

I have to give this book 4.5 stars. Another amazing book from Ms. Holly Hood and totally different from her previous book. This one is clearly 18 + YA compared to Perfectly Hopeless and nice to see that she can write in more than one genre successfully. Don’t get thrown off by the length. This is one of the rare books that deserves and needs it.
